Gartner has recognized Microsoft as a leader in the 2018 Magic Quadrant for Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) Tools based on our completeness of vision and ability to execute in the unified PC and mobile management market. According to Gartner, Leaders show evidence of strong execution for anticipated requirements related to technology, methodology, or means of delivery. Leaders also show evidence of how unified endpoint management plays a role in a collection of related or adjacent product offerings.
This analysis by Gartner is not focused on the market as it is today. Rather, it is their view of the transformational technologies or approaches delivering on the future needs of end users. This Magic Quadrant evaluates the current solution’s breadth of capability against common use-cases, client needs, and commonly requested features across mobile and PC management. The vendors in this market are noted for their ability to help organizations across a spectrum of needs which are comprised of enterprise mobility management (EMM), modern management of traditional endpoints (PCs and Macs), and integration with client management technologies (CMT) and processes.
At Microsoft, our own research and planning for what our customers will be needing in the next 2-3 years shows us a world with a number of categories that have converged and integrated to deliver a Modern Workplace that is loved by users and trusted by IT. Specifically, solutions in Unified Endpoint Management, Identity Protection, and Endpoint Protection will all need to be integrated in order to deliver the user empowerment, management, and security required in the near future. Understanding how these categories are changing, shifting, and converging over time is something every leader has to take the time to understand in order to effectively plan for the short term and long term.
Since the previous Gartner Enterprise Mobility Management Suites Magic Quadrant was published in 2017, more than 10M new devices were brought under Microsoft Intune management. There are now more than 135M PCs and mobile devices being actively managed by Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Intune, growing at the rate of over 3M every month!
