This EMEA report, written for CISOs, looks at the evolution of the CISO's role and highlights their top priorities and challenges. It draws on IDC’s engagement with security leaders and offers data from a number of IDC surveys.

1. The CISO Role is Maturing   
   The multi—dimensional CISO is emerging because businesses want to align security with their business and digital priorities, but a security-only background may not be sufficient to accomplish this.
     
2. Demand for Resilience is Growing   
   CISOs are investing in the fundamentals of resilience, including business continuity management and incident response, but this is challenged by constrained security budgets, legacy infrastructure, and lack of essential security skills.
     
3. Integration is Essential   
   CISOs have a preference for platforms, where tightly integrated products boost efficiency and productivity. If integration is done well, security leaders will be comfortable with consolidating overlapping products and services,  and procuring from fewer vendors.
